CONCH (kongk) The spiral shell of a gastropod, often used as a horn.
Also one of my most favorite foods. There’s nothing like fresh conch fritters or a dish the Islanders call cracked conch. The conch are easy to gather while snorkeling in crystal clear shallow water or drifting behind a boat. The empty shell in this painting was picked up while on a walk to the far beach the day before. I had been shell collecting and happened on this beautiful one poking up in the surf.
This morning the waves were rymthically crashing unto the shore while we were finishing our coffee. Each crest was perfect with the breeze creating a cockscomb of spray. Tim and I were
waiting for the sun to get higher in the sky so we could go snorkeling for tonight’s dinner.
