“Yellow Sky and Butterflies”

This painting was inspired by “Fairchild Tropical Gardens” in Coral Gables, Florida. I live close by and have spent quite a bit of time there.

Nature has a healing effect on me. Walking through the gardens I can feel  tensions fall away and a calm envelopes me. Dr. Fairchild traveled to many exotic, tropical countries to gather plants for his gardens. The shells in this piece are from Papua New Guinea where  Dr. Fairchild gathered many of his plants.  The blue butterflies are a species found in the rainforests of Costa Rica. If you look closely along the shore on the left, you will find a Heron, a bird species typically found in tropical regions.
